Our sweet Cali girl. June 14th? 1999-April 14, 2009

You are loved. You will be missed.
Ignore my voice in the video. I get excited talking to animals. Overly.

What a week

This pretty much sums up why my week started out very interesting. This is an email my mom sent to my brothers:

Hi, just a note to let you know that we had a bit of a scare with Cali’s health this week. She had begun throwing up her food, then her water, then stopped eating all together. She seemed painful when picked up. I took her for an emergency appointment on the weekend, the vet took blood tests, and called early this week.

Her liver enzymes were incredibly elevated, like 20 times normal values. He advised immediate transport to the teaching vet school at OSU. Your dad left work and had her there in under an hour. Emily stepped in to oversee her care and be contact person during the day long testing. They did more tests, took an ultrasound guided needle aspiration biopsy of her liver, and, after analysis, found that her enzymes were dropping, her liver was getting less swollen, but that her gallbladder was very inflamed and swollen. The biopsy was ‘inconclusive’, meaning nothing was obvious. Speculation is that she ate something (unlikely, considering she mostly acts as a decorator pillow), got a virus or bacterium, or some weird autoimmune thing that gave a one-time huge hit to her liver, and is now resolving. The gallbladder is way pissed as an associated organ, so it is in its phase of misbehaving, which should also resolve.

She is taking five medicines twice a day (fun times for all), and will have her blood retested Friday. We are hoping for the best.

It looks like we will have her for a while yet… I figure I have worked all week this week just to pay for my dog. Love hurts…
